On April 2, 2022, Yuvabe team along with Deepanam school organised a STEAM Fest, to present student projects that were created as part of Deepanam’s new STEAM curriculum. STEAM, an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths, is a modified version of the more famous STEM education initiative, that focuses on promoting a love for science related subjects, in schools around the world.
How many of us can remember drawing as children? Colouring on walls, making shapes in the mud, in the sand, and basically scribbling on anything and everything around us. As children, we weren’t judges to our own creativity. We drew instinctively. As instinctively as we talked, walked, played. Yet somehow, drawing, unlike speech and many other activities, has managed to attain a superlative status, restricting it to the art world. It seems the older we grow and the more ‘educated’ we are, the less we feel confident in drawing, if our drawing isn’t considered ‘good’.
English has risen as an undisputed global language in the world today. Within multinational classrooms, workplaces, social media conversations, English is the medium most commonly understood and used. Knowing how this global language opens up the world and our chances to explore a wide variety of opportunities, Yuvabe’s volunteer teachers, under guidance of C3Streamland, have been spending time teaching English in the outreach schools.
At Yuvabe, we realized early on that our mission to support the youth in their holistic development can be sustainable only when the generation we support continues the work and supports the generation that follows them. Thus, in collaboration with C3STREAM Land Designs, our team volunteers their time to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities” (UN SDG4) for students and youth of Auroville’s bioregion.
A fundamental human right, quality education is one of the most important pillars of a society. Yet, for many of us growing up, education had just become a means to an end, the end being getting employment and a good salary. Many times, this way of education came at the cost of losing our innate curiosity and creativity; losing our intellectual empowerment and natural ability, and eventually losing the joy of learning too.
In today’s connected world, if data is power then knowing how and where to use that data can be considered a superpower. Quilt.AI is a Singapore based technology company that harnesses that very superpower, by building products and services that look at data across the digital universe, and understand and enable positive cultural shifts in society. By researching the internet as a large, dynamic reflection of human behavior, Quilt.AI works to understand people and behavior at a scale that was never before done or was possible.
At Yuvabe, we kicked off 2022 with a purposeful intention: Becoming better teachers for the schools in our community. As part of our service work, many of our team members are engaged in imparting STEM and arts education in the Auroville and bio-region schools, for students of grades three to eight, and it is our constant endeavor to give the students our very best.
